Picture of my Mac Keyboard

I wrote about this a while back, but I don't think I ever got around to posting the picture.  Well, here it is.  I bought the black keys for my laptop so as to make playing keyboard at Emmaus Way and elsewhere easier.  So far it's worked out great.  I love not having to take my non-compliant midi keyboard (old Oxygen 8 anyone?) along with a midi to USB box.  I just show up with my laptop and I'm good.

Tonight at Emmaus Way we played a killer Patty Griffin song called Mary.  I came up with a drum loop in Logic, and then pulled up an FM synth patch to better emulate the original recording.  I hit some clunker chords, but other than that, everything sounded fine and worked like a charm!  In addition to all of that I also played my E-Way drum set...which is always a hodge-podge of sorts using my crazy looking shaker/ tambourine/ jingle hi-hat thingy, a few handdrums (tonight it was the Big 'ole Djembe and my smaller "Chinese" tom-tom, and my 26" scotch marching drum.

This week

Lots of stuff going on this week.  Starting back to school is always a bit of a shock to the system, but then adding two sessions on top of that sort of upped the stress on the system a bit...

I already told you about Monday's session in Greensboro.  We didn't get all the tracks finished and detailed like we wanted so I went back up last night and finished off two more tracks.  We'll be doing more tracking in October, so I'm looking forward to that.  The music is challenging, yet still very much pop oriented.  Sort of dark pop if you will...It was fun hearing some of my performances back last night.  Mike played me an especially tricky one that had tempo and time signature changes and I thought my tracks sounded pretty solid.  I took some video and photos of the session last night and will try to post them soon.  Plus, you'll get to see Mike's new studio...it's a pretty awesome room.

Tonight, I'm renting out my Slingerland Radio King kit, and an old Gretsch Snare for a session going on over at Overdub Lane here in Durham.  It's been awhile since I've been over there, so I'm looking forward to seeing that place again.

Tomorrow, is another full day.  I start the morning at Chapel Hill Bible Church, teach 3-4 lessons immediately after church lets out, and then head on over to Emmaus Way for their worship gathering.  After that, I'll probably go back to Overdub Lane and pick up my Radio Kings...

On other fronts, if you are over Japan keep a look out for eSession.  They'll be doing some promotional stuff, and I might even be giving away a free drum track (though it's not official).  eSession has a new plug-in called Virtual Glass which is used for video chatting and listening while you are tracking.  I'm looking forward to downloading that and trying it out.  You can watch a video on their site that explains most of the plug ins' features.

I'm also getting ready to do lay down some percussion and drums for George Bonner's latest recording.  He's out in Tulsa going to school and leading worship, and so I'll be emailing him my tracks and hoping he likes what he hears!

Test Post using Posterous

Here goes nothing...I'm trying out a new service that allows me to post via email (with pictures and links).  So wish me luck. Oh the service is called Posterous and allows you to post to a multitude of places on the net.  Similar to the Facebook app that Six Apart created, but since I don't think I'll be using Facebook anytime soon, I thought I'd give this service a try...
